The lotus flower is a powerful symbol in many spiritual traditions. It speaks of the human journey towards enlightenment. The flower grows in the mud, finding its way upwards through the murky water to finally bloom in the light. Like the lotus in the mud, we first begin within our own confusions, blocks and misperceptions. Through our spiritual practice we purify ourselves and enlightenment reveals itself.
The lotus maintains its peace, beauty and purity through all obstacles it faces. It does not allow itself to be distracted from the external world. Wearing the seed of the lotus serves as a reminder to stick to one's spiritual path, regardless of how ugly life might be, regardless of hardships because the beauty of enlightenment can be found amongst the darkness.
