These lovely tingshas have an antique brass finish featuring a raised design of the Sanskrit characters comprising the ancient mantra of Om Mani Padme Hum, referring to the jewel in the heart of the lotus. In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, this is the most beneficial and well-known mantra. It is found not only in temples and other sacred objects such as prayer wheels, but also carved or painted onto rocks and the sides of hills.
Tingshas are small cymbals used in by Tibetan Buddhist practitioners for sacred and ritualistic purposes. When the rims are struck against each other, they produce a clear, high-pitched, chiming tone that should be allowed to resonate until it disappears. They can be rung to signify that you are creating or closing a sacred space, such as for prayer, ritual, meditation, or yoga. They can also be used for clearing spaces, sound healing, or for music, especially in combination with singing bowls or other instruments.
